Work Experience

Hello there. This is my first blog and I have nothing particularly interesting to post. But this week has been an eventful one, I had my first week of dreaded Work Experience. Whilst all my friends were working in cozy offices drinking coffee stapling files I happened to be in a warehouse until about 11pm or something colder than I have ever been in my life. Yet I stayed home during school hours which was cool (more than a bit too cool though). What on Earth am I doing for Work Ed? Surely this isn't that 9-5 job Ms Llycanen* wants us doing**.

* I'm certain that's not how you spell it
** Think Peter Thurmer, expect female and possibly older (she has a moustashe)

Speaking of good old Ms L, 1. She'll kill me when she finds out I had left my work experience forms at school this whole time and 2. She got someone else talking to Nick C on the phone today, a man apparently (though that still applies for Ms L) and one can presume from his afterwards expression, a much kinder man. I'd kind of forgotten during the week but before hand when she constantly remided us of her contacting our employers I was scared shitless. For them of course.

But cutting to the chase now, I'm working on "The Defender", a short film about a man who spends all of his time indoors next to a cosy heater leaving the real-life film crew plenty catered. I WISH! Instead we're up in the pouring, freezing cold rain atop Ansties Hill, peaceful and sunny one moment (people were wondering why they even brought thier warm coats as they took them off) until a big black cloud came overhead. It was an amazing sight, though it wasn't a pleasant one ("See that big cloud over there Cleary? That's why we have to do this shoot now!" - Nick Skeer). The view was good though, I tried to photograph it, but it never looks at it should on camera unfortunately. In the film business, we know that all too well.

Anyway the big black cloud came overhead and stayed there for the majority of the shoot. And rained on us constantly with every freezing cold drop piercing into your skin. And it messed up my beautiful hair as well, though I suspect it probably wasnt looking that great that day anyway.

I used the clapperboard. On there i noticed in the take box it someone had written "Nick C loves donkey dick" or something along those lines. I didn't rub it off for any of the shots of takes.

We all have to feel sympethetic for the female actor though, she had to shoot the scene in a short sleeved dress when she was clearly shivering (suffering hypotermia or something, dont know cuz I'm stupid remember). She was not the only one. I wore about 15 shirts and massive jumper that made me look like a total IDIOT and I was still freezing. I also lost an earphone in the grass up there.

I was among the last to leave. The sun came out and dried up all the rain, and the big black cloud came back again just as we were packing up. How incredibly lucky.

We went back to Nicks house which was probably the highlight on the whole shoot, we were catered for the first time ever (after not getting pizza on Monday and no Subway on Tuesday, leading Dad to believe Nick is a total and utter dickhead though he's never actually met him) and the food was blissful, yet the actors got to sit in thier lushous lounge suit playing board games next to a heater, grrr actors. But that's the natural pecking order of the film industry, actors at the top (I hate to think what it would be like in Hollywood!) and Work Experience kid right down at the bottom. But thats OK I understand that.

I was offered to play a Goon for the night shoot but I turned that down, after what I experienced on the hill and in the warehouse, I was thinking that it'd be far too cool for my liking. From the stories I heard the next day, I was glad I was a no-show.

Today we were at MAPS studio and unlike Monday (I met Chirs that day, he was really really scary! Fun too) where the Metal Hospital where the set looked really unconvincing (sorry) today through the lens of the camera, the scenes in the detective / policeman / whatever's office (which Michael had to smoke a lot, much to my displeasure and lack of open doors) and the scene in the mourge looked really convincing! The lighting was fantastic in the mourge anyhow.

This blog hasn't told much of a story so far, more a random assortment of events. That's how good I am at this stuff. Tuesday's story is worth it's own blog altogether! I'll get to work on that later. Tomorrow is the final scenes and wrap at Nicks house so I'll see you there.

By the way

^ We'dve had to've camped in one of those just to warm up!

Later dudes

Richard
